Grim stands outside the bar. He’s so confident in his surroundings he doesn’t see me lurking in the darkness. Red, his VP, lightly punches him in the arm, and as I’ve seen him do a thousand times, he pulls out his gun, releases the magazine, makes sure there’s one in the chamber, and slams the magazine back into his Glock.
It’s his habit. The only one he appears to have, apart from pretty blondes. Even now, one of the whores from the bar walks toward him, throwing her long blonde hair over one shoulder and licking her lips. Grim doesn’t have an old lady, but he has a type. This, along with his habit, I can exploit.
Retreating further into the shadows, I jog back to my bike, turn it on, and disappear into the night. I’ve wanted Grim dead for a long time, but my president has made it clear I am not allowed to start a war. To appease myself, I’ve been watching him, looking for a chink in his armor. Soon, we will all be playing nice and under one roof. I just need a pretty little thing to help execute my plan, and as it happens, my ex, a stuck-up little princess, will help me, and she won’t even know it.
I’m stopped at a light and pull out my cell phone.
Me: Hey gorgeous, want to go for a ride?
In response, I get an emoji of the middle finger. Chuckling, I tuck my phone back into my jacket. Elora will come around.
Women are all the same.
First, you fuck up, then you apologize.
They forgive you, and you need to be more careful the next time so you don’t get caught.
Elora didn’t give me the opportunity to apologize, but she will. The weaker sex always buckles, and she’s female, so it’s only a matter of time.
Arriving home, I enter my house and go straight to the basement. Here is where I practice my best work. On the wooden bench, I have a Glock 31 in pieces. It holds fifteen .357 bullets and is Grim’s weapon of choice. The only working component I’m interested in is the magazine. It wasn’t easy, but I removed five bullets and inserted a small syringe inside. When he releases the magazine and slams it back into the gun, it should set off the spring I’ve placed above the needle, causing it to drop down and inject Grim. The fucking problem is that it works nine times out of ten. On the tenth time, it can jam. If this happens, Grim will see it, and my plan is out the window, and he’ll know it was me. I’m known for poisoning my knives, my bullets, or any of my weapons. When I go after someone, I want to know they’re going to die.
The needle will be dosed in Taipan venom, thanks to the newest addition to my collection. She wasn’t easy to come by and cost me a pretty penny, but one drop of her venom is enough to kill one hundred men. It’s painful and will only take about forty-five minutes to cause death.
My plan is to switch out Grim’s magazine with my poisoned one at the Motorcycles, Mafia, and Mayhem book signing this weekend. We’ll all be required to surrender our guns or knives. Grim will check his gun when he gets it back at the end of the day—his habit will be his downfall. My biggest problem will be not getting caught when I switch out the magazines. I plan to create a diversion, which should cover my tracks. Many will suspect me, but they won’t be able to prove it, especially if I can get the magazine back. They’d have to have a keen eye to see the small hole I’ve drilled into the bottom of the magazine. Most won’t even see it.
My plan is to aggravate Elora enough so she gravitates toward Grim. He has a tendency to want to protect the women he likes. Elora will be his downfall and my salvation.
